PR Card Renew

Most new PR cards are valid for 5 years. If a PR card is within 9 months of expiration, it has already expired, or your card is lost, you can submit an application to renew your PR card.

Eligibility:
  • submit your application in Canada
  • have been in Canada for at least 730 days during the last five years
    • these 730 days don’t need to be continuous
    • some of your time abroad may count towards the 730 days

Citizenship

Canada looks to welcome more than 430,000 new permanent residents each year. Most of these newcomers will become proud Canadian citizens. You can apply to become a Canadian citizen if you meet the following eligibilities.

Eligibility:
  • be a permanent resident
  • have lived in Canada for at least 3 out of the last 5 years (1,095 days)
  • have filed their taxes
  • pass a citizenship test
  • prove their language skills in English or French

There are additional or different requirements if you are:

  • applying for a minor (under age 18)
  • a Canadian applying for your adopted child born outside Canada
  • a current or former Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) member applying under the fast-track process
  • a past Canadian citizen who want your Canadian citizenship back (including current and former CAF members)
