Visitor Visa
A visitor visa (also called a temporary resident visa) is an official document that IRCC stick in your passport. Most travellers need a visitor visa to travel to Canada. You may also need one if you’re transiting through a Canadian airport on your way to your final destination.
A super visa lets you visit your children or grandchildren for 5 years at a time. It’s a visa that provides multiple entries for a period up to 10 years.
Work Permit
Most foreign nationals need a work permit to work in Canada. Some employers must apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) if they want to hire a foreign worker in Canada. An LMIA-based work permit lets you work in Canada according to the conditions on your work permit.
- have a copy of employment contract from employer
- have a copy of LMIA
- meet the education, employment and language ability requirements of the job
- be in good health and complete a medical exam
- have no criminal record
Study Permit
A study permit is a document issued by IRCC that allows international students to study at a designated learning institution in Canada.
The Student Direct Stream, or SDS, is a program designed to make the process of applying for a Canadian study permit faster and more efficient for some international students.
- obtain a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution
- prove that you have sufficient financial support
- Obtain a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) if you wish to study in Quebec
- satisfy the immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of the stay authorized by the study permit
- be a legal resident living in 1 of the following countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Vietnam
- have an acceptance letter from a post-secondary designated learning institution
- live outside of Canada when you apply
- have a GIC of CAN$10,000
- have an attestation of issuance of your Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) if you’re planning to study in Quebec
- have your most recent secondary or post-secondary school transcript(s)
- have a language test result that shows either of the following:
- an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher in each skill
- a TEF score that is equal to a CLB 7 in each skill
